Nitrous oxide can help eligible patients feel calmer and more at ease during dental treatment. At Parkview Dental & Prosthodontics, comfort options are considered alongside your health history, planned procedure and personal concerns.
What Is Nitrous Oxide?
Nitrous oxide is an inhaled comfort option delivered through a small mask placed over the nose. It is used with oxygen and adjusted throughout the appointment while you remain awake and able to communicate with the dental team.
When It May Be Considered
Nitrous oxide may be discussed for patients who feel anxious about treatment, have a sensitive gag reflex, find longer appointments difficult or would benefit from additional support staying comfortable. It is not appropriate for every patient, so your medical history and current health must be reviewed first.
Have Questions? We're Here to Help.
Our team is happy to discuss your options and create a plan tailored to your needs.
What to Expect
The mask is placed before treatment begins, and the level is adjusted gradually. You may feel relaxed, warm or light while continuing to respond normally. Oxygen is provided at the end of the appointment, and the effects generally wear off quickly. Your dentist will provide instructions based on your health and treatment.
Plan for Comfort
Tell our team about previous dental experiences, medications, breathing concerns, pregnancy, recent illness or anything else that may affect your care. We will explain available options and help determine an appropriate approach before treatment begins.
